That is a nice idea to talk about the physical conservation/preservation of the games as objects, too - bet you could get someone from the Getty Conservation Institute to think about it and contribute, too (I might ask some friends?) although I know the Smithsonian has plenty of resources along those lines, of course, too. :)

I have seen collections of music recordings on wax cylinders, etc. - this seems every bit as interesting and applicable.

Thanks for visiting Steven, and thanks for waiting! Yes, it's been a long time coming but the site is up and the information will keep coming.

Your question about a guide for home curation is an excellent one and one that I will create. I think that having the museums help describe the best way to preserve these treasures would be extremely interesting as well. Over the next week I will start a post about this and possibly even create a separate page that keeps the checklist for others to use.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Nice to see the site finally up. I've been waiting for it since GDC 2010. It's definitely looking good.

I was wondering if there is going to be an article section/discussion on preserving the physical games aka cartridges, arcades, cds, so forth for the gamers at home to do since more and more gamers are putting them on display like other art such as paintings, enlarged photos, pottery, etc. Here is a link one of an example I'm talking about: http://www.figure.fm/post/en/5985/My+Otacool+Room.html

You are so right, the Strong Museum is such a treasure!

The "Toy Hall of Fame" is mind blowing, especially when I see toys in there that I used to play with.

Here's hoping you come this way again!
